Neck Pain

For those of us who know what it’s like to suffer from neck pain, it may seem like relief options are limited. The truth is there is plenty you can do to help relieve the symptoms of neck pain yourself, and the need for surgery is rare in most cases.

Causes of Neck Pain

Neck pain can be attributed to many different causes. One of the most common causes is muscle strain due to injury such as whiplash or using improper form while exercising. Poor posture or sleeping in an awkward position can also cause a great deal of strain on the muscles in your neck. For many, it may be a medical condition that is causing the neck pain to occur. These often include fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, and even heart attack.

How to Relieve Neck Pain

Things like taking pain medication, wearing a neck brace, stretching and heat or ice therapy can be done from the comfort of your home or office. In more serious cases there may need to be additional tests done by a doctor to diagnose the source of the pain.

When to See a Doctor

If you experience severe neck pain for a prolonged period this could be an indication of a tumor, an infection, or possibly cancer of the spine. If you are suffering from consistent pain for long period of time, it is highly recommended that you speak with a trained medical professional so a proper diagnosis and treatment can be provided.
