The neck is made up of 7 vertebrae (Cl-C7) that extend from the skull to the upper torso. The cervical discs between the vertebrae acts as a shock absorber to help the cervical spine handle various stresses and loads. The bones, ligaments, and muscles of your neck support your head and allow for motion.

Common causes of neck pain include:

  • Poor posture /working at a desk for too long without changing positions
  • Sudden jerk-movements associated with exercise
  • Osteoarthritis between the vertebrae
  • Bulging / herniated disc in the cervical spine
  • Whiplash associated disorder

Some of the symptoms associated with neck pain are:

  • Muscle tightness and spasms
  • Decreased ability to move your head (poor ROM)
  • Headaches and / or migraines
  • Pain radiating down your arms (disc injury)
